The Job

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Director, Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting will own technical accounting issues including revenue recognition, stock based compensation, long-lived assets and adoption of new standards, support finance operations in application of U.S. GAAP, and be responsible for the timely preparation of company financial statements.  This role will work collaboratively with company leaders across functional groups to understand business transactions and to form well-reasoned accounting judgments and conclusions.  

 

What You’ll Do:

 

  • Responsible for assessment and implementation of all technical accounting topics impacting SimpliSafe, including evaluation, documentation and communication of all new accounting standards and reporting trends
  • Own technical accounting policy and be responsible for the understanding of and compliance with existing U.S. GAAP
  • Research accounting standards for new and complex transactions
  • Lead adoption of ASC 842 and other accounting standards, as applicable
  • Act as business partner to internal stakeholders to assess the accounting and financial reporting impact of new, strategic, business initiatives
  • Assist in annual financial statement preparation, including the completion and review of accounting disclosure and compliance checklists
  • Prepare SimpliSafe to achieve monthly and quarterly financial statement reporting
  • Establish internal controls and policies relating to the financial reporting process
  • Prepare the Accounting department for future compliance with SEC reporting and filings
  • Oversee foreign subsidiary consolidation, currency translation and re-measurement
  • Partner with IT and Systems teams in developing and deploying new technology applications to ensure compliance with accounting and reporting requirements
  • Lead annual review and documentation of Intangible Assets & Goodwill impairment procedures (ASC 350)

 

 

 What You’ll Need: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and CPA certification preferred, MBA/MSA a plus
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience, including public accounting experience and/or progressive technical accounting experience in private industry
  • 3-5 years of public company experience
  • Thorough knowledge and experience of current SEC rules and regulations
  • Strong technical accounting background and understanding of complex accounting transactions
  • Experience auditing or implementing new accounting standards
  • Ability to perform advanced technical accounting research and analysis, and documenting results and conclusions
  • Experience with NetSuite and Workiva a plus
