What You’ll Do

SimpliSafe is seeking a Network Engineer II to join our dynamic team. The Network Engineer II will be responsible for maintaining, and supporting our organization's network infrastructure while ensuring compliance with PCI and UL standards. This role requires a deep understanding of networking principles, protocols, and technologies, as well as hands-on experience with network hardware, software, and security measures. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a passion for staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in network technologies.

Primary responsibilities include: 

  • Provide problem analysis and all levels of technical support for onsite and remote staff.
    • Onsite 3 days a week between two Richmond office locations.
  • Monitor, support, and maintain the global enterprise network.
  • Identify issues and concerns as well as respond to alarm conditions.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and human relationship skills.
  • Work with IT Staff and vendors on the timely resolution of IT-related issues.
  • Responsible for acknowledging and addressing off-hour network issues. 
  • Entry-level wireless experience (Meraki preferred, Cisco, Aruba).
    • Troubleshooting connections and collecting packet captures.
  • Resolving network operation issues with the access and tools provided.
  • Stay current on network operations (Routing, ISP paths, creating diagrams and documentation).
  • Perform network upgrades and lifecycle management of hardware.
  • Participate in design discussions.
  • Manage firewall policies and optimize security following change management procedures and review (Palo Alto, Fortinet).
  • Performing audits on host devices and IP addresses.
  • Supporting the network environment by installing and configuring network systems.
  • Programming switches, routers, and other network hardware (Cisco preferred, Meraki, Juniper)
  • Supporting data communication components (ISPs).

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and/or CCNA preferred
  • Understanding of Layer 1, 2, and 3 issues.
    • Troubleshooting physical connections
    • Tagged traffic, trunk, and access ports
    • Layer 3 addressing and routing
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Up to 4 years of experience in the following areas:
    • Local Area Networking equipment, cabling, and protocols including routers, switches, Spanning-Tree, DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP
    • Wide Area Networking equipment, including edge routers and firewalls
    • Wireless LAN equipment and technologies including network switches, access points, etc. Cisco, Meraki, and Palo Alto are preferred.
  • Schedule Monday - Friday with flexibility to respond to outages or support upgrades during off hours.
