About SimpliSafe
We’re a high-tech home security company that’s passionate about protecting the life you’ve built and our mission of keeping Every Home Secure. And we’ve created a culture here that cares just as deeply about the career you’re building. Ours is a no ego culture of collaboration and innovation where those seeking their next challenge can find big opportunities and make a huge impact on the lives of all those who we protect. We don’t just want you to work here. We want you to grow and thrive here.
We’re embracing a hybrid work model that enables our teams to split their time between office and home. Hybrid for us means we expect our teams to come together in our state-of-the-art office on two core days, typically Tuesday and Wednesday, to work together in person, and teams can choose where they work for the remainder of the week. We all benefit from flexibility and get to use the best of both worlds to get our work done.
Why are we hiring?
Well, we’re growing and thriving. So, we need smart, talented, and humble people who share our values to join us as we disrupt the home security space and relentlessly pursue our mission of keeping Every Home Secure.
What You’ll Do
We are seeking an exceptionally talented and experienced Senior Embedded DSP/ML Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of our sensor data pipelines from raw analog signals through to sophisticated edge intelligence. This pivotal role requires a deep technical mastery of micro-controller/DSP programming, low-power analog-to-digital conversion, advanced digital signal processing (DSP), multi-modal sensor fusion algorithms, and the implementation of ultra-low-power neural networks directly on embedded hardware. Experience with FPGA development for hardware acceleration is a significant plus.
You will be instrumental in transforming raw sensor inputs (e.g., radar, PIR, image, audio) into actionable insights, ensuring our devices operate with extreme efficiency and intelligence at the very edge.
Responsibilities:
- Low-Level Sensor Interfacing & ADC: Design and implement highly optimized micro-controller/DSP code for direct interfacing with various sensors, including precise control over Analog-to-Digital Conversion (ADC) for ultra-low power operation and high fidelity data acquisition.
- Digital Signal Processing (DSP): Develop, optimize, and implement DSP algorithms (e.g., filtering, FFT, feature extraction, noise reduction) on embedded processors (microcontrollers, DSPs) for efficient processing of raw sensor data.
- Sensor Fusion Algorithms: Architect, develop, and integrate algorithmic approaches to fuse data from disparate sensor sources (e.g., radar, PIR, image data, audio) to create a robust and comprehensive understanding of the environment or event.
- Edge AI/ML Implementation: Design, optimize, and deploy ultra-low-power neural networks and other machine learning models for inference directly on resource-constrained embedded devices, leveraging specialized hardware accelerators where available.
- Performance & Power Optimization: Relentlessly optimize code, algorithms, and hardware configurations for minimal power consumption, maximum processing efficiency, and real-time performance on embedded platforms.
- Firmware Development: Write clean, efficient, and robust firmware in C/C++ for bare-metal or RTOS-based embedded systems.
- FPGA Development (Bonus): If applicable, design and implement hardware logic using FPGA-based acceleration of DSP algorithms, neural network inference, analog and digital interfacing.
- System Integration & Debugging: Collaborate closely with hardware engineers for board bring-up, sensor integration, and system-level debugging. Utilize specialized tools for deep analysis of hardware-software interactions.
- Algorithm to Implementation: Bridge the gap between theoretical algorithms and practical, efficient embedded implementations, considering real-world constraints and trade-offs.
- Research & Evaluation: Stay abreast of the latest advancements in sensor technology, DSP, edge AI/ML, and low-power computing to continuously improve our product capabilities.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in embedded software/firmware development, with a strong focus on low-level hardware interaction.
- Expert-level proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems.
- Deep understanding and practical experience with ADC principles, sensor data acquisition, and signal conditioning for low-power applications.
- Strong background in Digital Signal Processing (DSP) theory and practical algorithm implementation (filtering, spectral analysis, feature extraction).
- Proven experience in sensor fusion algorithms (e.g., Kalman filters, particle filters, Bayesian inference) for combining data from multiple dissimilar sensors (e.g., radar, PIR, camera, audio).
- Hands-on experience developing and deploying neural networks/machine learning models for edge inference on ultra-low-power embedded hardware.
- Proficiency with bare metal programming and Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) like FreeRTOS
Preferred Qualifications (Bonus Skills):
- FPGA development for custom hardware sensor interfacing and processing.
- Experience with embedded vision processing and image sensor integration.
