About SimpliSafe
At SimpliSafe, we’re on a mission to make every home secure. Our award-winning DIY home security system combines thoughtfully designed hardware with intuitive software to protect millions of people across the U.S. and beyond. As we grow our engineering footprint globally, we are building a new team in India to help us deliver high-quality, reliable, and user-friendly experiences across our web and mobile platforms.
We are partnering with a Kaamwork to continue to build out our India team.
Role Overview
We are seeking a bright, curious, and detail-oriented engineer to be the first dedicated Software Quality Engineer (SQE) on our growing India engineering team. This is a unique opportunity to lay the groundwork for our UI and UAT testing efforts, build quality processes from the ground up, and help define how we deliver seamless, reliable, and user-centric experiences across SimpliSafe’s mobile and web platforms.
As the foundational member of our SQE team in India, you will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Product, Design, and Engineering. You’ll be instrumental in validating features and releases, ensuring high-quality delivery through hands-on test case design, execution, and bug triage.
This role focuses on testing across mobile and web applications, with an emphasis on usability, reliability, and real-world behavior. You’ll review application logs, debug issues, and partner directly with developers to resolve defects. Your work will directly impact the quality of experiences used daily by SimpliSafe customers.
This is also a great opportunity to help shape and expand the India SQE team, as we scale our engineering presence and quality operations in the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Curiosity about how software works and a willingness to dig into technical details.
- Own and execute manual testing for UI features across mobile (Android/iOS) and web applications.
- Design, maintain, and organize test cases and test cycles using Zephyr or equivalent test management tools.
- Collaborate with product, design, and development teams to understand requirements, user flows, and edge cases, with a sharp eye for details and confusing experiences.
- Perform exploratory testing, regression testing, and feature validation in agile sprints.
- Review client- and server-side logs to investigate issues, identify root causes, and validate bug fixes.
- Debug UI or service-level issues and communicate technical findings clearly and effectively.
- Validate builds during release cycles and contribute to smoke and acceptance testing.
- Help define test strategies, coverage plans, and foundational QA practices for the India team.
What We’re Looking For
- 6+ years of hands-on experience as a manual SQE, with a strong focus on UI testing for web and/or mobile applications.
- Experience with testing IoT or consumer hardware-software integrations.
- Experience working with test case management tools like Zephyr, TestRail, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of software QA methodologies, tools, and agile development processes.
- Proven ability to write clear, concise, and comprehensive test plans and test cases.
- Familiarity with tools for debugging and log analysis (e.g., browser dev tools, Android Logcat, Xcode logs, Charles proxy).
- Experience with bug tracking tools like JIRA and collaboration tools like Confluence or Slack.
- Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and a problem-solving mindset.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with distributed teams.
- Experience testing responsive web designs and native mobile apps across devices.
- Exposure to test automation or a willingness to learn automation frameworks over time.
- Prior experience in fast-paced or early-stage teams.
