Principal Product Manager, Camera Platform & Services

About SimpliSafe

We’re a high-tech home security company that’s passionate about protecting the life you’ve built and our mission of keeping Every Home Secure. And we’ve created a culture here that cares just as deeply about the career you’re building. Ours is a no ego culture of collaboration and innovation where those seeking their next challenge can find big opportunities and make a huge impact on the lives of all those who we protect. We don’t just want you to work here. We want you to grow and thrive here.

We’re embracing a hybrid work model that enables our teams to split their time between office and home. Hybrid for us means we expect our teams to come together in our state-of-the-art office on two core days, typically Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday – working together in person and choosing where they work for the remainder of the week. We all benefit from flexibility and get to use the best of both worlds to get our work done.

Why Are We Hiring?

SimpliSafe is continuing to expand the capabilities of our connected security platform to support a growing ecosystem of devices, services, and customer experiences. Our camera portfolio has grown to the point where the hardest problems are no longer about shipping individual features, but about operating a heterogeneous fleet of cameras reliably, delivering firmware safely at scale, and evolving the underlying platform so feature teams can move quickly without compromising stability.

We are hiring a Principal Product Manager, Camera Platform & Fleet Foundations on our Platform team to own the platform every camera and camera experience depends on. This role exists to define and harden the architectural, firmware, fleet management, and reliability foundations that enable rapid innovation while protecting system integrity, customer trust, and operational excellence.

About the Role

This is primarily a platform-focused role, not a feature role. Your accountability is the foundation that every camera experience depends on, not the features that get built on top of it.

You will own:

  • Fleet-wide behavioral consistency across camera generations and hardware variants, including compatibility and lifecycle strategy.
  • Clear platform standards and guardrails that engineering can build against.
  • A measurable definition of platform health and operating rhythms to detect issues early and enable rapid recovery.
  • Defining and directing the strategy for the camera platform and fleet.

You will partner closely with firmware, backend, video/media, and ML/edge engineering leaders and serve as the subject matter expert owning the camera experience.

What You’ll Do

Set Platform Direction and Standards

  • Own the roadmap and long-term platform strategy across camera hardware, firmware and OTA systems, and video and media services with a focus on reliability, scalability, and customer trust.
  • Make tradeoffs explicit and documented; push back on one-off solutions that trade short term speed for long-term fragility.

Define Platform Health

  • Define the metrics that reflect real customer outcomes: reliability, performance, and experience quality.
  • Partner with engineering and data teams so problems are detected early, not discovered through customer complaints.
  • Ensure QA, rollout, and evaluation practices support safe platform evolution and predictable customer outcomes.

Lead Cross-Stack Execution

  • Translate platform needs into clear engineering priorities with measurable outcomes.
  • Build credibility with engineers and PMs through precision, transparency, and consistency.
  • Drive roadmap delivery across teams through strong planning and pragmatic decision-making.

What You Bring

Note that this role does not require deep expertise in video pipelines, ML, or media processing. We’re looking for a product leader who is energized by building and scaling complex systems that great products depend on.

You likely have:

  • 8+ years of product management experience, with meaningful time on platform, infrastructure, device platform, or systems-level products.
  • A track record of earning engineering trust through precision, consistency, and understanding how systems actually work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; you make priorities and decisions clear to engineers, product leaders, and executives.
  • Experience defining measurable outcomes and using telemetry and data to drive decisions.

It’s a plus if you have:

  • Experience working with firmware or OTA platforms on shipped products.
  • Experience operating or managing fleets of connected or embedded devices in real-world environments.
  • Familiarity with camera, video, or edge intelligence systems (or a demonstrated ability to quickly ramp up in technically complex domains).

What Values You’ll Share

  • Customer Obsessed - Building deep empathy for our customers, putting them at the core of our work, and developing strong, long-term relationships with them.
  • Aim High - Always challenging ourselves and others to raise the bar.
  • No Ego - Maintaining a “no job too small” attitude, and an open, inclusive and humble style.
  • One Team - Taking a highly collaborative approach to achieving success.
  • Lift As We Climb - Investing in developing others and helping others around us succeed.
  • Lean & Nimble - Working with agility and efficiency to experiment in an often ambiguous environment.

What We Offer

  • A mission- and values-driven culture and a safe, inclusive environment where you can build, grow and thrive
  • A comprehensive total rewards package that supports your wellness and provides security for SimpliSafers and their families (For more information on our total rewards please click here)
  • Free SimpliSafe system and professional monitoring for your home.
  • Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) that bring people together, give opportunities to network, mentor and develop, and advocate for change.
