Staff Technical Program Manager

About SimpliSafe

We’re a high-tech home security company that’s passionate about protecting the life you’ve built and our mission of keeping Every Home Secure. And we’ve created a culture here that cares just as deeply about the career you’re building. Ours is a no ego culture of collaboration and innovation where those seeking their next challenge can find big opportunities and make a huge impact on the lives of all those who we protect. We don’t just want you to work here. We want you to grow and thrive here.

We’re embracing a hybrid work model that enables our teams to split their time between office and home. Hybrid for us means we expect our teams to come together in our state-of-the-art office on two core days, typically Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday – working together in person and choosing where they work for the remainder of the week. We all benefit from flexibility and get to use the best of both worlds to get our work done.

Why are we hiring?

Well, we’re growing and thriving. So, we need smart, talented, and humble people who share our values to join us as we disrupt the home security space and relentlessly pursue our mission of keeping Every Home Secure.

The Opportunity

SimpliSafe is looking for a Staff Technical Program Manager to help our Engineering team deliver customer-focused product capabilities and enhancements. As a Staff TPM, you will work directly with our engineers to understand their needs and design solutions that enable teams to release higher-quality solutions more quickly. You will bring a passion for IoT platforms and solve real business problems, collaborating with Product Management, Security Technicians, Data Scientists, Hardware, Software, and AI/ML managers and engineers to deliver solutions that enhance the customer experience.

We are looking for someone who can prioritize well, communicate clearly, and demonstrate a consistent track record of delivery. Our Staff TPMs are proactive in removing roadblocks and can handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. In this role, you will be a positive influencer across diverse teams, effectively rally support for your initiatives, and help deeply technical teams create simple solutions to meet your program goals.

Primary Responsibilities

Cross-Organizational Leadership

  • Work across organizations, influencing external customers, partners, system owners, and architectures.
  • Facilitate technical trade-offs between short-term engineering team needs and long-term business goals, drawing on end-to-end understanding of key system areas.
  • Be a positive influencer across diverse teams — effectively rally support for initiatives and help deeply technical teams create simple solutions to meet program goals.
  • Communicate clearly at all levels — including executive leadership — on program progress, trade-offs, obstacles, and recommendations.

Program Delivery & Execution

  • Deliver large technology efforts by managing the lifecycle of complex, cross-functional programs with considerable impact on challenging business and product goals.
  • Define product and technical requirements for engineering teams. Negotiate resources and priorities, escalate effectively, and find a path forward in difficult situations.
  • Create predictable process paths for large and complex efforts. Improve, streamline, and eliminate excess processes.
  • Proactively remove roadblocks and manage multiple competing priorities across hardware, firmware, software, and cloud teams.

Technical Engagement

  • Drive business and technical discussions related to the initiatives you own. Be clear and concise in verbal and written communication — requirements, FAQs, status reports, narratives, and quarterly planning.
  • Apply engineering background or equivalent technical experience to drive simplification and efficiency in complex architectures, unblocking innovation and accelerating speed of delivery.
  • Develop deep end-to-end understanding in key areas that benefit the organization, becoming a trusted technical partner to engineering leads and managers.

Process & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and drive opportunities to improve engineering efficiency across teams and organizational areas.
  • Improve, streamline, and eliminate excess processes — creating clarity without bureaucracy.
  • Establish and track delivery metrics to surface patterns, improve predictability, and make continuous improvement visible to leadership.

What You'll Bring

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience working with engineering teams
  • 5+ years of experience in technical leadership roles (e.g., technical program management, systems architecture, software engineering, or equivalent)
  • 5+ years of experience with the technical development lifecycle from conception to delivery
  • 5+ years of technical project management experience with demonstrated knowledge of program management best practices
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, Mathematics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field — or relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in a senior technical leadership role with increasing scope and organizational complexity
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and a highly collaborative, low-ego attitude
  • Knowledge of IoT and security hardware; comfort working across hardware, firmware, software, and cloud teams
  • Experience working within Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) across multiple engineering teams simultaneously
  • Track record of improving engineering delivery efficiency through process simplification, not just process addition

What Values You’ll Share

  • Customer Obsessed - Building deep empathy for our customers, putting them at the core of our work, and developing strong, long-term relationships with them.
  • Aim High - Always challenging ourselves and others to raise the bar.
  • No Ego - Maintaining a “no job too small” attitude, and an open, inclusive and humble style.
  • One Team - Taking a highly collaborative approach to achieving success.
  • Lift As We Climb - Investing in developing others and helping others around us succeed.
  • Lean & Nimble - Working with agility and efficiency to experiment in an often ambiguous environment.

What We Offer

  • A comprehensive total rewards package that supports your wellness and provides security for SimpliSafers and their families (For more information on our total rewards please click here)
  • Free SimpliSafe system and professional monitoring for your home.
  • Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) that bring people together, give opportunities to network, mentor and develop, and advocate for change.
